Like all Rotary Clubs, The Peninsula Sunrise Rotary Club enjoys many activities which influence both the lives of our members and those we help.  Rotary is basically a service club dedicated to serving the local and international community.  We value the fellowship and satisfaction in serving others.  Click here to see some of the many activities we participate in, or visit our calendar to see upcoming events.

Our club was chartered in April of 1988, and meets every Tuesday morning at Pete’s Harbor House Restaurant, at the end of Whipple Avenue in Redwood City.  Our meetings start at 7:30 a.m. and conclude at 8:30 a.m.  Since it’s inception the club has maintained an average membership of 25 Rotarians.  Membership in the club is essentially business people in the Redwood City area who believe in service to those in need in our community.  The club enjoys many visiting Rotarians from other clubs because of the convenient time and place of our meetings. A breakfast meeting with an interesting speaker and fellowship with friends is a great way to start your day, and it does not break up the middle of your day.

THE FOUR WAY TEST
OF THINGS WE THINK, SAY OR DO.
First, is it the truth?
Second, is it fair to all concerned?
Third, will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Fourth, will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Born March 1988, parented by District 5150, the Rotary Club of Peninsula Sunrise, Menlo Park & Redwood City burst onto the scene. We are a small club, but we have got some big people. People like Police Captain Ron Matuszak, he stands about 6' 6", in uniform, and people like Andy Frisch and Peggy Frick, we've got Janet Borgens and Barry Jolette, Dave Hyman, Bob Sans, Bob Denebeim, John Guilhamet and Trisha Barker. These people stand tall in Redwood City.

It was these individuals and the other members of this "service above self' Club, all 18 of us, that last year conducted fund raisers that enabled this group, that represents Menlo Park, Redwood City and Rotary International, make cash contributions exceeding $36,000 to local organizations that do the hands on work of making, where we live and work, a better community and this world a better place for us all. Our major fund raising event is Irish Night, in honor of St. Paddy's Day, a day on which every one either is or wishes they were Irish. Every member of the Club participates, in one way or another, in the preparation. Last year, every member of the Club and many of their spouses was in attendance and actively participating to make it a night to remember and a great success.

This proud group of Rotarians also gave of themselves volunteering to help the elderly at Casa de Redwood, by gathering and distributing warm clothing and personal care items for the homeless, by putting together food baskets for the needy at Thanksgiving and again at Christmas and baskets of candy and gifts at Easter. With the assistance of the City we organized "Tis the Season" a children's Christmas parade through the streets of down town Redwood City. Which was topped off by a spectacular fire works display. We take our turn helping at the Second Harvest Food Bank and at St. Anthony's Kitchen, we stand in the cold and the rain ringing the bell for the Salvation Army.  14 of our now 20 members rang the bell for 22 hours last month to raise nearly $1,500.

We volunteer to serve on the Boards of other charitable organizations and give of our professional time to assist non-profit and charitable groups deal with the governmental compliance and legal issues that are part of this world.

International, we work with the Rotary Club of Colima, which is in Redwood City's sister city of Colima, Mexico. We have designated one of our members to visit Colima and to work with them in ways that we can assist them. Over the past several years we have also, contributed to the building of a library and vocational center in Ghana, Africa. If you visit our web site at http://peninsularotary.tripod.com you can view this building and some if its students and the sign that gives credit to this little club that is doing its best to represent Rotary International.
We have also given a scholarship to a Russian college student, Masha Maslova from Ivanovo, Russia, to visit the United States and continue her studies.
